What a fun weekend this turned out to be! Since Kelly + Marc’s wedding was in Chicago, Jonathan and I decided to make a weekend out of it and drove up north on our longest road trip as a family so far. I was a little nervous about the length of the drive but it was so nice to have 13 hours (each way) by ourselves, driving, talking, reading to each other, and just holding hands in silence (while Winnie the Pooh played for Noah on the backseat tv, of course). I love that we can enjoy that much one-on-one time together after four and a half years of marriage. And I know it will just get better and better!

I have a feeling Kelly + Marc are going to be the same way. You can see it in the way they both meticulously got ready for each other the morning of the wedding. The way that Marc smiled ear to ear as he saw his bride walk down the aisle. And Kelly’s excitement before their first kiss. I’m so thrilled for them both and I know their families are too. Their wedding was so centered around family with the ceremony taking place in Bethany Chapel, where Kelly’s parents attended as newlyweds and many of her aunts and uncles were married. Kelly’s brother, who’s currently serving in the military, was able to FaceTime the family the morning of the wedding and at the end of the ceremony, Kelly + Marc went back into the sanctuary and dismissed the guests row by row with hugs. It was so sweet!

Kelly + Marc, I know you had the best time on your honeymoon. I hope Illinois was just a tad warmer when you got home!

Adorable Lindsey + Greg made a quick visit home to Wake Forest from Washington, DC for their engagement session at the home of Lindsey’s parents. Lindsey had mentioned that she wanted to do their session near the pond where they got engaged last year and, before I showed up, I wasn’t sure what to expect! We hopped in a truck and drove through the backyard to this empty, sandy field next to the pond. Lindsey had arranged for her dad to bring down this gorgeous vintage fainting couch and we started shooting right at sunset. It was beautiful! It can sometimes be challenging to shoot an entire session without a variety of backdrops but the light was so beautiful and Lindsey + Greg were just so sweet together – it made my job a little easier. I feel like they look so relaxed you could hardly guess that we were rushing out the door to make it to the field at sunset and Greg was running off of just a couple of hours of sleep over 48 hours! You two are total pros ;)

If this sweet girl doesn’t give you baby fever, I don’t know what will! I got to photograph the brand new daughter of our awesome friends, Chris and Kayla, this month and man… she is a sweetheart. Little Brinkley is only a couple of weeks old and still has squinty eyes, baby soft skin, and squishy cheeks… Sigh…

We incorporated Kayla’s love of dance and Chris’ love of music and his guitar, along with just a few photos of their first “baby”, Chewie – who seemed pretty confused about the commotion in Brinkley’s room while we were shooting. I loved spending the morning with this sweet new family!

These dear, dear friends of ours are adding another girl to their family in April. I’m so grateful to know these two (and their sweet baby, Amelia!). Eric and I have played in our church band together for almost six years now and Amanda is one of my closest friends. So excited to meet their newest addition in just a couple of months! And I’m so glad that they included me in this special time… Love you guys!

In between all the weddings, engagements, and bridals I photographed this year, I had the pleasure of working with a few families and high school seniors! These photos haven’t been blogged before because I’ve been hoping to make a separate blog for my seniors and family work… I’m sure you all know how some things on the “to do” list just don’t get done! I am in the midst of renovating my current website and blog so look out for some fun changes soon!

This first photo from Alexis’ senior session kills me… hello, gorgeous!

I had the rare experience of attending a wedding that I was not the photographer for! My dear friends, Amy and DJ, married in June and Amy asked me to capture just a few images of the First Look with her hubby and then (arguably the real love-of-her-life) her sweet puppy, Rocky. Adorable!

Seriously, do I get to work with the prettiest seniors or what? LOVE this photo of Emily… and that backlight has me craving some summer sunshine!

Another beautiful Emily… The last photo of her with the grasshopper always makes me smile. So sweet!

One of my favorite families to work with… the Freemans! They’re expecting another baby girl in April so I’ll be shooting a maternity session soon :) Their precious girl, Amelia, and my Noah are the sweetest little friends! Don’t you love her big eyes?

This was one of my favorite seniors this year… my brother, Joe! So stylish and handsome and FUN! We had the best time shooting his session and I can hardly believe he’s graduated now!

Julie and her mom were such sweethearts during her session…I hated when it was over and we had to part ways!

The Stanley family… full of girls! I love that they brought their doggy, Bentley, to play!

More close friends of ours, the Tanners! I first photographed Gia when she was about eight months old (see that session here)… It’s always fun to see how babies grow and change and how they stay the same. I just love her little lips in the last photo!

I can’t wait to see what incredible families and seniors I’ll get to work with this year!

Yesterday was this little monkey’s birthday.

We sang Happy Birthday in bed, cuddled, got the birthday boy a Krispy Kreme doughnut (which he LOVED), went to the Children’s Museum and watched Winnie the Pooh (a couple of times). There are so many things I could say about this past year and how much it has taught Jonathan and I. How much joy we’ve experienced. How many struggles we’ve walked through. How many times I thought “I’m the best mom ever!” and “I’m terrible at this mom thing” both within an hour of each other. This parenting thing is no joke!

But we’ve never smiled so much. Or teared up with overflowing hearts of joy so many times. Snuggling this little guy is one of the best feelings in the world. He is such a sweetheart, and a flirt. He smiles at everyone and doesn’t like going to bed because he just wants to play!

We love you, sweet Noah. Happy Birthday.

I’m currently enjoying a little break for the holidays but thought I’d pop back in and share a few photos from our Christmas… My baby boy is almost one (January 10th!) and this First Christmas was so much fun! Noah is so interested in everything now and is walking like a pro. He wasn’t too interested in opening presents but I think he had fun anyway. We have so enjoyed our time with family and this much needed break from our crazy end-of-the-year schedule! I’ve been working behind the scenes on website updates, submitting weddings for publication, and other fun stuff for 2014… I’ll update again soon! Until then, enjoy this little glimpse into our Christmas with both sides of the family. I hope you all had a Merry Christmas, too!

I couldn’t be more thrilled that these two are tying the knot next year… this gorgeous girl is my cousin, Kelly. We grew up right next to each other but Kelly has lived in Chicago for more than a few years now. I’m so glad she found Marc there! These two were in North Carolina for a visit a couple of weeks ago and I’m so honored that I got to photograph them together. I have never seen Kelly in love and it was a beautiful thing… Marc is definitely her perfect match! Their session was full of cuddles, dancing, laughs, and a few stolen kisses…

What a perfect way to end my 2013 wedding season! These two are dear friends of ours and Chelsea works with Jonathan at Daystar Church. My birthday fell on their wedding date and I was so honored with many “Happy Birthday!” wishes from mutual friends all day and two rounds of the birthday song! They were so sweet to share their day with me!

This was also my first time shooting at Reverie Farm and it was incredible! The property was beautiful and perfectly fit Chelsea’s vision of rustic elegance… they even had a tractor-pulled hayride taking guests down to the ceremony site by the lake! We were surprised by a rain shower right at the end of the ceremony but it didn’t ruin this wedding day… in fact, as the rain fell harder and harder, everybody’s smiles got wider and the guests started to giggle. It was so fun! As soon as Chelsea + David cleared the aisle, we made a mad dash for cover ;) Thankfully, the rain only lasted a short time and we were able to take some portraits outdoors and finish out the night with a beautiful reception and clear skies! Seriously, a perfect day to celebrate with friends and family!

Randleman, NC. | Bride’s Dress – Justin Alexander, from Maggi Bridal in Raleigh, NC – Belt from Violette | Bride’s makeup – Carla White Hair & Makeup | Officiant – Allen Holmes | Florist – Russell Meadows Farm | Catering - Sweet Basils Catering | DJ – Anything Music | Cake – Simply Scrumptious Bakery {and thanks to Jenny Tenney for second-shooting with me!}
