I have really enjoyed these last couple of weeks of February. It’s been a little bit slow around the office and I’ve actually had time to organize, clean (yes, I really enjoy cleaning), rest, and come up with some new ideas for 2012! I’ve gotten to spend time with my husband on the couch without working on images at the same time. And I actually went to the chiropractor for the first time yesterday… hoping to get my shoulders fixed up. I am so in love with what I do and am already itching to shoot more, but having a little time off has been such a blessing :) Plus the weather has been insane in North Carolina lately. It’s been warm, and sunny, and breezy… I can’t get enough of it! The 70 degree forecast for this afternoon is taking me back to my days living in California :)

I’ve got big plans and am so excited to see what God does with me this year. I plan on putting more time and effort into my current, past, and future clients. I hope to travel more. I’m really hoping that we’ll be able to buy a house this year. I plan on building and investing in my relationships with friends and family. And I’m bringing a lot more to the blog this year! I’ll be doing a few giveaways, posting more personal photos and stories, and will be starting a weekly (possibly bi-weekly) FAQ/tips post… starting some point in the near future!

I get questions every week ranging from what equipment I use and technical camera settings, to how I choose locations for sessions and pose couples, families, and seniors. I’m hoping to answer some of these questions as a weekly blog special! Comment on this post with any questions you have! Wanna know what my settings were on a certain photo? My favorite kind of coffee? My wedding day schedule? Ask away!

I really appreciate everyone that follows this blog and hope that you’ll enjoy the new additions. I’m really looking forward to sharing!

One of my 2012 goals is to post more personal photos and stories on this blog so I figure, why not start now? Here is a little taste of our Christmas. . .  I’m looking forward to sharing more of our life with you all!

First, our Christmas tree. Isn’t it lovely? I can hardly take credit… Jonathan is in charge of Christmas trees around here!

Jonathan’s family came to visit the few days before Christmas. . .

We gave his mom a small album of their 25th anniversary photos as a gift. I think they like it ;)

We spend Christmas eve with my side of the family and wake up to this . . . Christmas morning is my favorite!

The adults get to sit out in the living room drinking coffee until we see these little fingers sticking out from under the door. . .

Our holiday breakfast tradition. . . Are your mouths watering like mine?

I am convinced that I have the cutest husband in the world. . . .

. . .  and the prettiest sisters . . .

My favorite photo from this Christmas. The first thing she did after opening this gift was to run show dad. . .

When the last present is opened we start a war with the silly string we all get in our stockings. (Yes, I still get a stocking!)

Not even the cameraman is spared!

Our dog, Luke, didn’t like the silly string as much as everyone else . . .

And finally, our family photo from this year! Have a happy New Year, everyone!

Today has been an encouraging day, after a less than stellar week. Something about the break from the summer heat. The overcast day and cool breeze are lifting my spirits. Isn’t that strange? Overcast skies are famous for making everyone melancholy. Even sad. And yeah, I wouldn’t mind curling up in a blanket and watching a movie now (preferably one set in Autumn so I could pretend that the 98 degree weather isn’t coming back anytime soon), but I would be happy. Not weepy. Part of my mood is due to my Jonathan coming back from a three day conference in Alabama. Part of it is because my coffee was extra good this morning. And part of it is because I know that no matter what happens, I am taken care of. God is always watching out for me. Paying attention to me. And cares about me and my family. If you follow me on Twitter or are my friend on facebook, you may have seen that my brother was in a bad motorcycle wreck two Fridays ago. It was scary. Terrifying, even. John was in the hospital for a few days with internal bleeding but has recovered quickly. He’s still in pain but he’s home now under the care of family and his beautiful fiance. I’m so thankful that he’s still here. Thankful that everything works together for good. So, yeah. I’m happy. Thanks for allowing me to post something more personal today. I guess this weather also makes me write more!

Now, on to the photos of Nikki! I’ve known this gorgeous girl for years. Our families used to go to church together and I have always loved seeing Nikki. She’s so beautiful, but unassuming. She may seem shy at first but I know her better than that! Whenever Nikki and I are together we are constantly cracking up! You’ll see some laughing photos later in this post :)

Don’t you love her long, dark hair? I do!

Serious cuteness going on here. . .

Hello, gorgeous!

We goofed off just a little bit with this frame I brought . . .

We found a few new locations to shoot. . . this one was very tempting. I wanted those doors!!

We finished the session by dressing down and hanging out on the parking deck with Nikki’s longboard.

LOVE this. You all know by now I’m a sucker for shoe shots!

I wish I could do stuff like this without hurting myself!

We’ll end with my fave from the session. . .
