It officially feels like summer around here. Yesterday was our first pool day and it was so nice… until a storm rolled in and we got absolutely poured on. Ha! Still, lots of fun. I’m looking forward to the longer days, more playing outside, and nights on the screen porch under the string lights with Jonathan. Making goals in May really helped me accomplish things I wanted to get done so here are some of my goals for this month!
Goals for me…
Print personal photos Last week I lived through the heart-stopping event of one of my main hard drives crashing. Seriously, for a few minutes I was terrified, trying to remember what was on the drive. Thankfully, I always back up my work in multiple places so I didn’t lose anyone’s wedding photos. But, for whatever reason, I wasn’t as careful with my personal photos and lost the last few months of photos and videos of my family, our little boy, our day trips, and our home life… The only photos I do have from those times are the ones I printed or loaded onto Facebook, or had on my phone. And yes, I know better. I just never took the time! So, the awful lesson here is to back up your digital photos multiple times and get those babies printed! This month I’ll be making sure my older photos are in at least two backups and having tons of them printed.
More family play time We have passes to the Children’s Museum and a local Science Center that Noah loves. Hopefully we’ll make a few more visits in the next few weeks.
Goals for my business…
Submit spring weddings to blogs + magazines I just received my copy of The Knot Carolinas Fall/Winter issue where Erin + Brandon’s wedding was featured in print! I have wanted to have a wedding in print since I started Alexa’s Photography but have never quite taken the steps to submit. It just comes down to insecurity – we all struggle with that, right? I didn’t think it was worth it because there was “no way I’m good enough to be in a magazine”. But hey, you don’t know if you don’t try! I’m so glad that I took the time to submit this wedding and now sweet Erin + Brandon get to see their wedding in a magazine. How fun! I’ll be submitting more this month to other magazines and wedding blogs.
Start work on a booking packet I’ve been thinking about this for a while and just haven’t started yet! I want to create a cute, informational packet that includes the expected timeline leading up to the wedding, my hours, policies, and tips for making your wedding day the most photogenic (things like making sure both the bride and groom get ready in a room with lots of natural light!). I’ll at least start work on this in June :)

Other things I’m looking forward to in June – a family party celebrating my parent’s anniversary, a sister’s birthday, a brother’s birthday, and another sister’s graduation from high school, Heather’s bridal session, hosting an essential oils class, and Haley + Grant’s wedding in Raleigh!
Also, I’ll be posting Crystal + Hunter’s wedding here next week and it’s gorgeous. Here are a couple previews…
Alexa,
Your photos are more than magazine worthy! They are absolutely stunning and you have such a unique eye for capturing the most special moments!
Thank you, Taylor! You are the sweetest… I’m so glad I was able to capture your wedding day!
I need these goals too! I really miss holding actual photos and flipping through an album. Oh, and you could submit ALL the wedding photos you shoot to magazines! One of my brothers friends just asked me if my wedding was going to be featured in one because the photos were so amazing. True story! Keep up the amazing work!
I’m glad you feel the same way! I can’t wait to have these prints in my hands :) And thanks for your sweet comment!
You’re so sweet, Caroline! Yours is one of the first that I’m going to submit in the next few weeks. I loved your wedding and it was so beautiful and unique!
